EarthFEST's
Past

EarthFEST was held for the three years, 1998, 1999, and 2000 as a two-day event at the Courtenay Fairgrounds. There will be no EarthFEST event at Courtenay this year, 2001.

The SunWater EarthFEST Legacy Project,
leaving behind something to continually benefit the community.

In 1999, EarthFEST's second year at Courtenay, the SunWater EarthFEST Legacy Project was initiated. Government funding under the Renewable Energy Deployment Inititiative was sought and obtained, allowing for a discount of $400 each on 100  SunWell Solar Hot Water Heaters installed in the Courtenay/Comox area. This project is in its third year of deployment and has spread to the lower mainland and Vancouver and Gulf Island areas of B.C. Get your hot water from Sunlight!

The Earth Festival Society also partnered with the B.C. Rivershed Society and their "Fraser 2000 - Spirit of the Salmon - Swim for Life", starting at the head waters of the Fraser River at Mt. Robson on August 27 and concluding with "SpiritFEST" on Granville Island on September 24th (B.C. Rivers Day).

Fraser 2000 - Spirit of the Salmon - Swim for Life

SpiritFEST was the concluding celebration on Granville Island, where Fin Donnelly emerged dripping, on B.C. Rivers Day (September 24th) from swimming 1400 km of the Fraser River waters, and where SpiritFEST exhibitors showcased demonstrations throughout the day of sustainable lifestyle technologies in Food, Energy, Shelterand Transportation.

How to Host an EarthFEST Handbook
published in 1998, is freely available for down-loading.

The EarthFEST vision sees communities reaching for sustainability with appropriate knowledge and tools. We hope that EarthFEST, like the Fall Fair or Home Show, will be held regularly in many communities, and that EarthFEST will eventually become a major information transfer mechanism and catalyst for new technology adoption.
If you would like to host an EarthFEST in your area, the "How to Host an EarthFEST" handbook details organizational and fund-raising procedures.

    Volunteers
Similar to a rural agricultural fair or folk festival, EarthFEST involves people at the grass-roots level. Ultimately, EarthFEST seeks to strengthen the capacity of communities to meet their own needs through the generation and regeneration of community talents and resources. Volunteer support is vital to the success of this community event.
