What is SUNWATER?

SUNWATER is a project to bring solar water heaters to the mid-Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland areas of B.C. The product chosen for the SUNWATER project is the Sunwell SW200 Solar Water Heater made in Delta, BC by Taylor Munro Energy Systems Inc.

For a downloadable pdf version of the SunWater brochure, please click on
page one, and page two.

Who is SUNWATER?

SUNWATER is an EarthFEST legacy project sponsored by The Earth Festival Society, in conjunction with Taylor Munro Energy Systems Inc. A special contribution from the Renewable Energy Deployment Initiative of Natural Resources Canada is helping us reduce the price. Financing by Homeworks, a subsidiary of BC Gas, enables homeowners to buy the heaters on a low-payment monthly installment plan

Who is eligible for the program?

Homeowners with suitable houses or cottages in the Lower Mainland and mid-Vancouver Island areas of B.C. Residents of Gulf Islands are also eligible, but there is a small surcharge to cover ferry costs.

How do I learn more?

SUNWATER offers a real alternative to people concerned about climate change and the environment. If you are interested and would like to find out more, fill out the questionnaire .

How much energy will I save?

The SunWell solar water heater will deliver between 3 and 4 gigajoules of energy per year, depending on site conditions.  This means that the solar water heater can provide most of your summer hot water, if you save major hot water use like baths and showers for the evening. In Spring and Fall, the solar water heater preheats the water for your hot water tank. If your existing water heater runs on gas or oil, using a SunWell is equivalent to planting 3000 trees or taking a car off the road for two months, in terms of avoided Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

How much does it cost?

Under the SUNWATER program, you can purchase the passive solar water heater for $1,595 plus GST, a savings of $400 off the regular price. As well, $100 is deducted from the installation cost. Homeworks financing is available. SUNWATER is also looking at other financing options with local financial institutions, to give you several good easy payment choices.
